Data & Analytics Templates

Data engineering and analytics diagram templates covering ETL pipelines, data warehouses, streaming, data lakes, and BI stacks — ready to customise for your data platform.

About data & analytics diagrams

Data and analytics diagrams trace how data moves from the systems that create it to the people and models that use it. They cover ingestion, storage, transformation, quality checks and serving. That might be a nightly ETL batch, a Kafka stream feeding live dashboards, or a lake with raw, refined and curated zones.

Data engineers use them to plan pipelines and debug lineage. Analytics engineers use them to show where a metric is defined. Platform and governance leads use them to show ownership, access rules and where sensitive fields are masked. They also help explain to stakeholders why a dashboard number refreshes hourly rather than instantly.

A good data pipeline diagram makes direction and timing obvious. Each stage should say whether it runs in batch or streaming, which tool runs it and who owns the output. Show where data quality is checked, not only where data lands, and keep orchestration, such as Airflow, separate from transformation. Use the zone names your team already uses, whether that is raw, staging and marts or bronze, silver and gold.

Which template should you pick?

  • Pick ETL Pipeline Diagram Template when batch data flows one way: into a warehouse like Snowflake, through dbt, then out to BI and ML.
  • Pick Streaming Data Pipeline Diagram when events flow continuously through a broker to stream processors and several sinks at once.
  • Pick Data Warehouse Architecture Diagram or Data Lake Architecture Diagram when the question is how storage is layered, from raw data to curated tables.
  • Pick BI Dashboard Architecture Diagram when explaining how dashboards query the warehouse through a semantic layer, a query cache and row-level security.
  • Pick Data Mesh Architecture Diagram or Data Governance Framework Diagram when the story is ownership: domain data products, stewards, policies and data contracts.

Or generate one from a prompt

  • “ELT pipeline: Fivetran loads Salesforce and Postgres into Snowflake, dbt builds staging and mart models, Airflow orchestrates, and Looker dashboards read the marts.”
  • “Real-time clickstream pipeline: web events into Kafka, Flink sessionizes them, and results go to a live dashboard, an S3 archive and an Elasticsearch index.”
  • “Lakehouse with bronze, silver and gold layers: raw files land in object storage, Spark cleans and joins them, gold tables feed BI and ML.”

Paste any of these into the AI diagram generator to get an editable, animated diagram in seconds.

Tips for customizing data & analytics templates

  • Add the cadence to each stage label, such as Orders sync (hourly) or Clickstream (real time), so freshness is visible at a glance.
  • Give quality gates their own nodes, such as schema validation or row-count checks, instead of hiding them inside the transform step.
  • Mark where personal data is masked or tokenized, and which zones still hold raw PII, so privacy reviewers know where access must be tight.
  • Name an owner on every data product or mart. In a data mesh, ownership is the point of the diagram.
  • Switch the Streaming Data Pipeline Diagram or Data Lake Architecture Diagram to the Pipeline or Steps style when the order of stages matters most.
